Humo Base/ Ankle REPS

Description:

Overview of Technology

An ankle brace technology that collects data to assess the risk of potential injury

Background

Ankle REPS is comprised on multiple capacitive resistance-based sensors positioned in a way that collects movement data. Microelectronic transmitter delivers data in near real-time to a portable device.

Description of Technology

Ankle REPS is a wearable technology device that can measure ankle joint movement and force production occurring at the foot are needed data points in developing quantitation data that may reduce the chance of overuse injury. Ankle REPS will be able to convert real-time practice and game movement patterns into useable data that is currently only available in a laboratory setting. Soft stretchable sensors are integrated in a compression sock, that wirelessly transmits changes in resistance converted into rotational and force data.

Benefits

  • Real‑time conversion of data
  • Wireless technology

Applications

Based on interviews with over 30 professional strength and condition coaches, there is a lack of trust in data provided by current athletic wearable technology. This technology can be used in elite sports teams to assess risk of injury and analyze movements of players.
