Mobile Markerless Motion Capture for Movement Data Collection in All Environments

Description:

Overview of Technology

Mobile markerless motion capture is a technology that collects biomechanical data by using drones and cameras which are synced to capture human or animal movement.

Background

Mobile markerless motion capture is the future of human performance data collection outside of the laboratory. Currently, Markered motion capture is considered the gold standard of biomechanical data collection for assessment but putting physical reflective markers on a participant while they perform movement tasks can be time-consuming ,inconsistent, expensive and are rigid in their flexibility to be performed outside a laboratory setting.
environment (e.g., a research lab).

Technology Description

Markerless motion capture using unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), also known as drones, sync with the software to monitor movement and analyze data. The markerless motion capture software, installed on a local computer, communicates with the cameras to capture the movement and joints of the human or animal. The UAS platforms are synced to remain in formation with the human or animal being observed. The UAS platforms are synced using a drone show software to ensure proper placement.

Benefits

  • replaces camera stands
  • similar accuracy to Markered motion capture
  • Moves with test subject
  • Can be utilized outside of controlled environment
  • Reduces costs
  • High resolution cameras
  • More efficient testing method (doesn't require markers)

Application

This technology can be utilized in a clinical, sports or military setting. It can help to analyze the difficulty of tasks, assist with diagnosis of medical matters as well as analyze form and environment suitability in a number of various applications.

Opportunity

An opportunity exists to aid the development of building all of the working pieces into one unified end product
